We have formed a community-lead, environment driven campaign to help reduce single-use plastics in and around Camelford and gain plastic free status for our town from SAS (Surfers Against Sewage) using initiatives such as The Final Straw Cornwall and the Refill Scheme.
Several towns in the UK have now achieved the SAS Plastic Free town status, including Perranporth and
Penzance, and Truro is the first city to gain Plastic Free Status!
Our larger ambition is to join with other Cornish towns working towards Plastic Free Status to create a plastic free Cornwall.
Gaining plastic free status is not only good for the environment, we believe it would be a positive thing for the public profile of Camelford as a whole, due to positive national press of such an accolade. This will help to attract the eco conscious tourist and bring a much appreciated boost to local economy.
